National Western Stock Show committees approved judges and Simmental's request for a pen of 5 percentage bull division added to the 2011 Denver events. The addition was based on exhibitor requests and will debut during the "national" show. Colorado Simmental Association is pleased to host the national events and to announce its outstanding judge lineup - Donnell Brown of TX, pen show judge; Shane Bedwell of CO, junior show judge; and Joel Judge of CA, open class judge.

The Simmental schedule is:

Friday, Jan. 14
ASA board meetings under way.
9 a.m. - Pen cattle processing in the yards.

Saturday, Jan. 15
ASA board meetings under way.
3 p.m. - ASA annual meeting at the DoubleTree.

Sunday, Jan. 16
8 a.m. - Bull pen show in the Stockyards arena in the yards, plus People's Choice Power Bull judging.
3 p.m. - Open class & junior cattle processing on the hill.
6:30 p.m. - ASA Chairman's reception at the Double Tree
7:15 p.m. - Foundation auction at the Double Tree

Monday, Jan. 17
8 a.m. - People's Choice Power Bull finalists announced; Female pen show in the yards.
4 p.m. - The One sale in the yard's Livestock Center Auction Arena.

Tuesday, Jan. 18
8 a.m. - Junior show in the Stadium Arena on the hill.
Immediately following - Open class bull show.
6:30 p.m. - Wild, Wild West sale at Brighton.

Wednesday, Jan. 19
8 a.m. - Open class female show on the hill.

National Western Stock Show 2010
Simmental highlights for the 2010 National Western Stock Show include:
 

The 2010 National Western Stock Show Simmental bull pen show and female pen show winners were:

  • Bull pen of 5 purebred champion from Damar Farms & KA Cattle of Emerald Wisc.;
  •  Bull pen of 5 purebred reserve champion from Hale Ranch of Perryton, Texas;
  • Bull pen of 3 purebred champion from Hale Ranch;
  • Bull pen of 3 purebred reserve champion from Silver Towne Farm of Winchester, Ind.;
  • Bull pen of 3 percentage champion from Limestone LLC of Stillwater, Okla.,
  • Bull pen of 3 percentage reserve champion from Grindstone Creek Farms of Sturgeon, Mo;
  • Female pen of 3 purebred champion from AJE Cattle Co. of Marshall, Minn.;
  • Female pen of 3 purebred reserve champion from Grass-Lunning Simmental of Leroy, Minn.;
  • Female pen of 3 percentage champion from Cow Camp Ranch of Lost Springs, Kan., and
  • Female pen of 3 percentage reserve champion from JS Simmental of Prairie City, Iowa.

The Simmental pen shows, held Jan. 17-18, were judged by Jim Ligon and his associate Greg Upchurch, both of Tennessee.

 

Winners in the 2010 National Western Stock Show Simmental youth-owned cattle in the junior heifer show were:

  • Percentage heifer grand champion from Kayla Nelson of Mabel, Minn.;
  •  Percentage heifer reserve champion from Courtney Jass of Garner, Iowa;
  • Purebred grand champion from Kaitlyn Lee of Columbia, Mo., and
  • Purebred reserve champion from Zach Henthorn of Fleming, Ohio.

The junior show, held Jan. 19, was judged by Travis Taylor of Colorado.

 

Winners in the 2010 National Western Stock Show Simmental open-class shows were:

  • Percentage bull grand champion from Tolle Show Cattle of Taylorsville, Ky.,
  • Percentage bull reserve champion from Walter Cattle Co. of Elk City, Okla.;
  • Purebred bull grand champion from Hudson Pine Farms of NY and Remington Land & Cattle Co. of Alberta, Canada;
  • Purebred bull reserve champion from Schick Cattle Co., of Decater, Ill.
  • Percentage female grand champion from Morgan Phillips of Maysville, Ky.,
  • Percentage female reserve champion from Carly Wesner of Chalmers, Ind.;
  • Purebred female grand champion from Koty Allen of Emerald, Wisc.;
  • Purebred female reserve champion from Macy Griswold of Stillwater, Okla.
  • Premier Simmental exhibitor was SVJ Farms of Penn., and
  • Premier breeder was Hudson Pine Farms of NY.

The open class shows, held Jan.19-20, were judged by Curt Rincker and his associate Stan Tarr of Illinois.

 

CSA board members, along with ASA field staff and volunteers,
check in pen cattle on Jan. 15. Bulls were ultrasounded. A special
thanks to Gallager scales for aiding the processing.

CSA volunteers, including superintendent Tim Kochert (left) were
aided by ASA staff and numerous AJSA trustees to check in
hill cattle on Jan. 17.

SVJ Farms were named Premier Exhibitor.

Hudson Pine Farms was named Premier Breeder.

the AJSA trustees who helped provide ring service at the National
