Simmental-sired grand champions of market, breeding, and open show
Simmental champions at your county fair in Colorado. Winners must be
sired by a registered Simmental bull to qualify.

• Simmental Breeders, Youth Recognized
GREELEY -- Awards, ranging from $900 in scholarship money to ranch
achievements, were presented during the Colorado Simmental Association
(CSA) annual meeting.
Miles & Jeanne Davies of Deer Trail were honored with the Pioneer
Award. The Davies family are charter members of the CSA, formed 36
years ago this summer. They helped establish the association and
remain committed to its various projects even through they have
retired from active ranching. Miles Davies is past president of the
CSA, plus past president of the Colorado Cattlemen's Association and a
former American Simmental Association trustee. His wife has served as
president of the Colorado Grange and a lobbyist for that group and the
Colorado Cattlewomen. Their industry efforts were noted as they were
given the surprise award.
Robert & Chris Campbell of Ignacio were recognized as CSA Breeder of
the Year during the May 27th meeting. Campbell Simmentals was lauded
for its assistance to the breed through personal service on the state
and national board including Robert's service as chairman of the
American Simmental Association and for its help to youth.
Keith Kochert of Greeley and Katie Campbell of Ignacio tied for the
CSA Youth of the Year award. Plus CSA awarded three $300 grants each
to Jason Russell of Sugar City and twins Clay and Clint Johnson of
Longmont. All three youth own and exhibit Simmentals plus have shown
extra efforts in offering behind-the-scenes assistance at National
Western, Rocky Mountain Beef Expo and the Colorado State Fair.
Colorado Junior Simmental elected Jason Johnson as president, brother
Clay Johnson as vice president and Katie Campbell as secretary.
Bruce German of Longmont received the surprise President’s Award.
German's volunteer efforts on the state breed association board were
noted by CSA Pres. Tim Kochert. Willie Altenburg of Fort Collins was
thanked for his efforts to get the CSA's People's Choice Power Bull
started and thanked for serving on the CSA board. Altenburg's seat was
filled by Mick Meiklejohn of Colbran, who was elected as a new
three-year director. James Dilka of Briggsdale and Tim Kochert of
Greeley were re-elected to second terms. CSA also voted to retain its
current officers of Pres. Tim Kochert, Vice Pres. Bruce German and
Secretary/Treasurer Susan Russell.
The honors and business meeting followed an interactive presentation
by Dr. Tim Holt of Colorado State University on Brisket disease and
Pulmonary Arterial Pressure (PAP) test research. It also followed the
junior field day events, held in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain
Junior Beef Expo. Overall field day winners were: Jason Johnson of
Longmont, senior division; Clint Johnson of Longmont, intermediate
division; and Chad Russell of Sugar City, junior division, who each
received a belt buckle. Competition included showmanship, sales talk,
herdsmanship and sire summary tests and livestock judging.
