People's Choice Power Bull

Cattlemen cluster around the various bull entries in one of the people's choice judging sessions. The bulls were identified in their respective classes and EPD summary sheets were provided to aid the audience in ranking their selections.

Ron Mari, CSA pen chairman, presents a jacket to Bob Grass. Grass-Lunning Simmental's GLS/GFT 105 was voted as the top bull in the pen of 5 people's choice judging on Jan. 20th at Denver.

Ron Mari presented a People's Choice Power Bull jacket to Jeff Springer. In a very close vote, Springer's SAS T008 Big Bopper was the reserve in the people's choice in the pen of 5 judging at the National Western Stock Show.

JS Simmentals representatives receive a Power Bull jacket from Power Bull chairman Mick Meiklejohn after their bull, JS Masterpiece 13T was selected as the people's top choice in the pen of 3 division. Sponsor ShowRite Feeds donated the jackets.

Roger Allen of Triple C Farms accepts a jacket from Mick Meiklejohn after Triple C's Main Event T07N was selected as reserve in the people's vote for the pen of 3 division. Later that day during The One sale, this bull was selected as the People's Choice Power Bull.

Bob Volk of J&C Simmental receives a jacket from CSA President Tim Kochert after Volk's bull, J&C Affirmed T391, gathered the most people's choice votes in the third division of judging during the National Western's Simmental bull pen show.

Cowger family representatives display one of the prestegious Power Bull jacket as CSA's Tim Kochert, right, presented the honor to RS&T Simmental. Their bull, RS&T Troy 12T, was in the third wave of people's judging.

ASA Chairman Mike Stoltey reaches deep into the ballot box hoisted up by Power Bull coordinator Mick Meiklejohn at the start of The One sale on Jan. 21 at the National Western Stock Show. CSA president Tim Kochert can be seen supervising in the background as the winning People's Choice Power Bull card is drawn with Phil Curtis' name on it.

James Dilka shakes Sam Allen's hand to symbolize the selection of the Triple C Farms bull as the 2008 People's Choice Power Bull. The winning ticket was purchased by Phil Curtis of Paw Paw, MI. Curtis, who had played in the past, was unable to attend this year's Denver event and used the internet option of playing but designating a representative to make his selection. While all sale-goers watched, Dilka tried to call Curtis with the good news but only got a busy phone line. The Colorado cattleman then proceeded to select the Triple C Invasion son as Curtis' choice.

Triple C Main Event T07N was selected as the 2008 People's Choice Power Bull. Thanks to ShowRite Feeds for sponsoring the 4th annual event.

This year the People's Choice Power Bull
is being sponsored by ShowRite and

Past Winners
People’s Choice Power Bull is in its 4th year. Here is a look at the past lucky winners:

• 2007 – The odds were steep but JS Simmental of Iowa, won it all. The breeder not only had a bull in the top six selected by the crowd, but then Jay Steenhoek’s own name was drawn out of the locked box. Steenhoek selected his own bull to be named 2007 winner.

• 2006 – Teenager Darby Reynolds of New York was drawn as the 2006 winner. Her dad, Art, purchased the ticket in Darby’s name, then the pair selected Triple C Extra Power R09E as the Power Bull.

• 2005 — Rob Pischel of Nebraska selected a bull from J&C Simmental as the first winner. On a sale flyer featuring prodigy of the bull, renamed J&C Power Bull, Rob recently wrote: “It looks like winning that bull will help out our program.”
